PB1B: Finding Your Voice
- Part 1: Think about a public argument that you’d like to make for WP1. What issues do you care about what? What would you like to advocate for or against, and why?
I care about euthanasia which can be also called mercy killing. I advocate for euthanasia. Because I think a man should be able to make a decision for his own life. I am personally an Atheist, I don’t believe there is a God. Even the parents of the person who choose euthanasia shouldn’t interfere with his or her decision. I believe a person should decide his own life in any way.
- Part 2: Looking ahead to WP1, you’ll need to write a Letter to the Editor (actually two of them!). Take a look back at the 3 examples that you collected for PB1A. What “moves” (decisions, techniques, or strategies) did these writers made which you’d like to consider using in some way for your WP1 assignment.
Using examples
Using statistic
Using lifetime experience
Using a different perspective
- Part 3: Evaluate these three Letters to the Editor: Who do you think wrote the best LTE, and why? What “didn’t work” and why? As you answer these questions, think about the intended audience of each piece.
letter 1: 8
I think his letter is okay because he provides the audience with some reference for the statistic. The statistic he provides is based on research from the authority. He also provided some example countries such as Chile, Argentina. He sees the problem as a worldwide problem. which leads the audience into deeper thinking. It’s not only about American women but also women in this world.
letter 2: 9
This letter is the most convictable in all three letters. She is using life experience to persuade the audience and argues with advocate abortion people. She sees the consequence of women who don’t have a safe and legal abortion. I think I can write some real-life experience in my WP1.
letter 3: 6.5
The reason I think this letter is the worst is that it talks about government dem and rep. He didn’t go in deep with those details for what they did. but the good point is that he uses data to show how many women are suffering no legal abortion.
